AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria are problems we used to have in Canada. Luckily, in our beautiful country we have access to vaccines which prevent thousands and even millions of deaths. But not everyone has the same privileges as us. I believe it is our duty as Canadians to share this privilege. Due to removal of global aid from the US, millions of people are going to die from these preventable vaccines but Canada can continue their support and lessen the impact. Canadians value humanity and take pride in helping those who need it most. This month Results Canada is asking for Canada to help.
Results canada's ask is "With rising global health threats and widening inequalities, we urge Canada to continue to champion the Global Fund and build on our current level of strong support ($1.21 billion over 3 years) to help #WinTheFight against AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria."
This would help the global fund get closer to their goal of being fully funded for three years. (Goal: 18 billion)
The Global Fund estimates that a fully funded Eighth Replenishment would:
save 23 million lives;
deliver a return on investment of 1:19; and
avert 400 million infections or cases.
"According to UNAIDS, the permanent discontinuation of the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) would have a catastrophic impact over the next four years, including:
an additional 6.6 million new HIV Infections,
an additional 4.2 million AIDS-related deaths, and
3 million additional children orphaned by AIDS."
